Insurance
Buckinghamshire Council provides comprehensive insurance policies to cover your school in all eventualities.
We conduct periodic market testing, arrange your cover, provide support and general advice and manage your claims.
Core Property Policy
The cover is arranged centrally for buildings and contents against the perils of:
- fire
- lightning
- explosion
- earthquake
- aircraft
- full riot
- civil commotion
- subsidence
This policy runs from April - March and existing customers are automatically renewed every year.
Balance of Insurable Risk
The cover is arranged for all contents: Projectors, TVs, computers and internal parts (floors, ceilings, lights, glazing etc.) for which the school is responsible in accordance with the agreed scheme for building maintenance. The cover also includes items on temporary loan or hire to the school. Loss and damage caused by the following would be covered:
- Malicious Damage
- Accidental Damage
- Theft (not restricted to the forcible and violent entry)
- Burst Pipes
- Impact
- Flood
- Storm/Tempest
- subsidence
This policy runs from April - March and existing customers are automatically renewed every year.
Third Party Hirers
Schools may hire the school premises to individuals or organisations as a means of raising funds. Whilst some regular "hirers" of the premises such as guides or scouts may have Public Liability insurance cover it is likely that most individual hirers and some small groups will not.
This policy runs from April March. New and existing customer will need to fill out a form to take out the policy
Parent-Teacher Associations
A cover can be arranged to protect the Schools' Parent/Teacher Association against its legal liability for accidental bodily injury, illness or disease to third parties or accidental loss of or damage to third party property arising out of the Association's usual activities.
This policy runs from September - August and existing customers are automatically renewed every year. To opt-out please click here.
Optional - Parent Teacher Associations
Cover can be arranged to protect the School's Parent/Teacher Association against its legal liability for accidental bodily injury, illness, or disease to third parties or accidental loss or damage to third party property arising out of the Association's usual activities.
Optional - Accident/Sickness
This cover supports schools towards the cost of providing supply staff
Maternity/Paternity
This scheme supports schools towards the additional costs arising from individual teachers on maternity leave. The cost of providing maternity cover even for the briefest of periods could pose particular problems for even the largest school. For a small school, the implications may be considerable.
This policy runs from September - August. New and existing customer will need to fill out this form to take out the policy
Staff and Liability
This policy protects the Council, the school employees, and governors against their legal liability for bodily injury, illness or disease to third parties or loss of or damage to third party property arising out of the Council's/ School's usual activities.
This policy runs from April - March and existing customers are automatically renewed every year.
Accident/Sickness
This cover support schools towards the cost of providing supply teachers can be insured along with the cost of absences in respect of ancillary and caretaking staff.
This policy runs from September - August. New and existing customer will need to fill out this form to take out the policy
Motor Occasional Business use
This insurance will cover all staff cars used off-site for business use on a comprehensive basis, subject to a £25 excess in respect of own damage, rising to £100 where the driver is under 23 years of age

School Journey off-site
This policy covers the legal liability of the Council, school, and governors for death or bodily injury to third parties or damage to third party property arising out of the use by governors and employees of their own motor vehicles on school business. This cover operates in the event that the individual does not hold insurance for such injury or damage.
This policy runs from September - August. New and existing customer will need to fill out a form to take out the policy
Optional - Maternity/Paternity
