Headteacher Performance Management
Headteacher Performance Management
Effective performance management of the head teacher is an important part of holding the headteacher to account and providing strategic direction to the school. For maintained schools, it is recommended that at least 3 governors on every governing board are trained to carry out the performance management of the headteacher. This course is aimed at Chairs of Governors and Governors undertaking performance management of the headteacher.
Join our Buckinghamshire School Improvement Advisors to understand the requirements of the headteacher performance management process, Ofsted's expectations of governors, and most importantly how to get the most from effective performance management. We will share good practices across the performance management cycle; from choosing an external advisor and objective setting through to reviews of progress, appraising end-of-year reviews and assessing headteachers' development needs.
Please note, that this course will not cover Conduct and Capability policies or procedures, or pay scales.
Outcome:
- Understand the statutory duty of governing boards of maintained schools to performance manage the headteacher
- Ensure that your school adopts an effective approach to performance management
- Understand how to work effectively with an external advisor to set clear and achievable objectives, and to appraise performance with appropriate evidence
