Precision Monitoring
Precision Monitoring
Precision Monitoring teaching is an instructional approach aimed at refining the precision and fluency of literacy and numeracy skills. Precision Teaching concentrates on targeted skill enhancement.
Taught in a one-on-one setting between a teacher or TA and a student, each session is approximately 10 minutes and occurs daily.
The method is designed to include a repetitive structure, intending to prompt students to recall whichever skill they are focusing on.
This approach allows students to master specific skills before moving onto the next task. Ideally taught in a quiet setting outside the standard classroom environment, daily sessions are imperative to afford students consistent opportunities for skill practice and development. Progress needs to be tracked overtime to ensure continual progress.
Where might we use it?
Spellings, phonics, vocabulary, numeracy work, physical skills, visual tasks, routines, and sequencing, etc. Young people experience this as a set of achievable goals, which builds on the familiar. It is enjoyable, creative, and a fun way to learn at their own pace. Seeing themselves making progress every single day, gently challenges their expectations of their own abilities so they can see themselves as a learner.
